Polished plaster, or Venetian plaster as it is known in some parts of the world, dates back to ancient Roman times, but it wasn't until the 15th Century that it really came to prominence as a decorative material.
The classic marmorino plaster, of which all other derivations of plaster offered by poshplastering.co.uk descend, is a lime putty that starts life as limestone sourced from Italian quarries. The limestone undergoes an amazing transformation first by being fired in a kiln. The resulting stone is added to water creating a fine lime putty that is then left to age for up to one year. Finally a fine marble dust is added to this putty.
This plaster, by virtue of the kind of lime used to make it, mean this it is an extremely breathable material and therefore an ideal finish coat for areas prone to mildew. |

Using methods that have been around for hundreds of years, polished plaster is applied using a steel trowel to build up several fine layers of plaster that is finally 'burnished' to give a glass-like finish.
A decorative finish found widely across parts of the Mediterranean, the plaster can be applied to a wide variety of substrates both internally and externally.
